EDDM Made Easy

EDDM, which stands for Every Door Direct Mail, is simply awesome. It will transform your business if you use it to your advantage. Here is why you should be using EDDM, if you aren’t already:

  • At just 16 cents per postcard, you will be able to tell the entire neighborhood about your new listing without breaking the bank.
  • You don’t have to know the names or street addresses. You just identify the neighborhood(s) you want to target and your printed pieces are delivered to every active address in your target area.
  • No expensive postage permits are needed.

Don’t let the process intimidate you. Just follow these 10 simple steps!

 

  1. Have a postcard designed for you that meets the specific height and width requirements of EDDM and that also has the Indicia and Mailing Label in the proper location. Or skip all of this nonsense and simply use one of our beautiful EDDM approved postcards (available with the Standard Listing Package and Pic’s and Marketing Package) and skip this tedious step!
  2. Go to the EDDM Search Tool on USPS.com. Type in the zip code your listing is located in and then locate it on the map.  As you mouse over the map the specific EDDM routes will highlight in purple.  Once you find the correct neighborhood click on it to actually select it and then click Next.  You will be asked to create an account.  Do so if you haven’t already.
  3. Select the day you want to drop the postcards off at the office, then click Next.  Tip: It does not matter one bit what day you choose.  If you choose one day and drop it off 2 after that date, for example, it won’t affect anything.  The post office will still accept your delivery.
  4. Next, accept the Terms and Condition and choose to either pay online or at the post office.
  5. Next, you will be taken to the Thank You For Your Order page.  Scroll down to the bottom and click the Print All Forms Now button. Print out the PDF and fill the forms out.  Steps 6-9 detail how to do so.
  6. The first page, titled Post Office Locations and Drop Information, tells you which post office to take your postcards to. It even gives you there store hours and phone number.
  7. Next, fill out the Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) Retail (click the link to view a properly filled out form) page.  Where it asks for Total # of Pieces Per Bundle on the top right, you must put either 50 or 100.  I always choose 100. You will see why in step 9.
  8. Skip page 3, Every Door Direct Mail Retail. This is just for the post office to identify the EDDM route.
  9. The last page is the Every Door Direct Mail Retail Facing Slip (click the link to view a properly filled out form). This one is important.  Put the date you are dropping the mail pieces off at the post office in the Date field.  Put either 50 or 100 for the Total # of Mail pieces per Bundle.  The post office will only accept them in bundles of 50 or 100.  Tip: To save time, count out 100 pieces first.  Then just grab a stack and place it next to the 100 pieces and add or subtract until they are the same height. It doesn’t have to be exactly 100, just close enough.  I always use this method and I have never had a problem.  Next, enter the Total # of Bundles.  If your entire EDDM route has 874 homes, for example, and you chose to make bundles of 100, then you would enter 9.  Now print out a total of 9 Facing Slips and fill each one out.  Then take the Facing Slips, fold them in half, place them on top of each bundle, and then rubber band them together.
  10. That’s it.  Congratulations you are done! Now just take your bundles down to the post office along with all of your print outs and go grab yourself a Starbucks for your efforts.
